The two filmmakers Gianluca and Massimiliano De Serio are back to Teatro a Corte after the huge success of Dissolvenze in 2015, a show combining video and theatre and that was dedicated to the Rom community of Lungostura Lazio in Turin. The screening of the feature film called Stanze, hosted at the Polo del Novecento, is part of the project Stanze/ Qolalka designed in collaboration with the Festival delle Colline Torinesi and representing the first stage of a two-year work devoted to the Somali poetry: poetry was a political tool for the public debate of that country before the advent of writing in the 70s and the establishment of the dictatorship of Siad Barre. At the core of the story we find the political refugees of Somalia, their lives, their stories, their temporary stay in Turin at the barracks La Marmora of Via Asti. A work of denunciation passing from the diaspora stories of Somalia to Italy, through the prisons of Libya, the desert, the abuses, the crossing of the Mediterranean Sea and the odyssey of the Italian reception centres, until the arrival in our city.
GIANLUCA AND MASSIMILIANO DE SERIO
Since 1999, the De Serio twins created short films, documentaries and installations, focusing on the themes of identity and memory. Their films inspired international retrospectives hosted by the Museo de Arte Moderno la Tertuliain Colombia and by the Tel Aviv Contemporary Art Centre. Their first feature film Sette opere di misericordia (2011) was awarded with the International Prize Don Quixote at the Locarno Film Festival, the Prix du Jury at the Festival International du Film de Marrakech and the Grand Prix all’Annecy Cinéma Italien, as well as with three nominations for the Silver Ribbon and one for the Golden globe. Their first play Dissolvenze was presented in 2015 at Teatro a Corte; the feature film that inspired the staging of I racconti del Fiume was presented at the La Biennale di Venezia in 2016.
