A STRING SECTION

Reckless Sleepers

In A string section nothing is as it seems: five elegant women dressed in black and five wooden chairs. Everything points to the musicians ready for a string concert. But instead of musical instruments, we see on stage five handsaws and a surprising performance including circus and dance elements takes shape. As castaways on islands that become smaller and smaller, and balanced on an unstable space that each one of them models through a saw, the interpreters unsheathe muscles and humour, lightness and unconsciousness, skills and imagination: the result is a show that has been applauded worldwide and that became the big number of this Anglo-Belgian company with a strange name, “Reckless Sleepers”.

RECKLESS SLEEPERS
Born in 1989 in Nottingham, this company is formed by a group of 13 artists coming from different disciplines: theatre, dance, visual arts, design and engaged in original projects for site-specific and alternative contexts and museums. Leen Dewilde, the choreographer of A String Section, focuses on the unusual use of everyday objects removed from their original context and subjected to a process of destruction in order to give them a new and more creative destination.
