Since 1901 and up to the 30’s Pablo Picasso painted dozens of Harlequins: blue, rose, cubist, neoclassical, symbolist and unfinished ones. He painted himself and his son, his friends and his enemies, as Harlequins, entrusting this comic mask the cathartic value set aside for tragedy till then. In Picasso Parade, a spectacular play conceived for the splendid setting of Palazzo Madama, in the heart of Turin, Nicola Fano and the choreographies of Paul Mohovich start from the ideas proposed by one of these Harlequins: the one depicted in the The family of acrobats, dated 1905. They create a show made of theatre, music, dance, juggling and contemporary circus. The result is a striking tableau vivant whose characters chase the memories and poems of Picasso, accompanied by the genius of two extraordinary German circus performers, Stefan Sing and Cristiana Casadio.
NICOLA FANO
Nicola Fano is a historian of theatre, journalist and playwright who conceived and realized the marathon called After Shakespeare for the TPE Foundation, an event dedicated to the four hundredth anniversary of the death of the great playwright, presented in six stages for the 2015/16 Season. For theatre, he wrote plays for Giorgio Albertazzi, Antonio Calenda, Gioele Dix, Antonello Fassari, Sebastiano Lo Monaco, Gianrico Tedeschi, Massimo Venturiello and Tosca. Among his publications, we find Le maschere Italiane (Il Mulino, 2001), La tragedia di Arlecchino (Donzelli, 2012), Andare per teatri (Il Mulino, 2016).
PAOLO MOHOVICH
As a choreographer, he began his career at the Ballet de Zaragoza and founded in 1999 the Balletto dell’Esperia, an internationally acclaimed company which he worked with over thirteen years. He created over fifty choreographies for the Miami Contemporary Dance Company, Maggiodanza, Balletto di Toscana, Centro Dramatico de Aragon, Ballet de la Generalitat Valenciana, Dantzaz Konpainia, Tulsa Ballet. Since 2007 he is the artistic director of the Palcoscenico Danza Festival within the TPE programme.
